About Placement Math Lab

Last updated: October 9, 2026

A placement test can decide whether you start college in a credit-bearing math class or spend a semester (and tuition) on a course that doesn't count toward your degree. The math on these tests is not advanced. Most points are lost on percents, fractions, linear equations, and word problems, and on a few traps that catch the same students again and again.

This site exists to help with exactly that. Every practice set is written for one test and matches what that test actually asks: ACCUPLACER, TSIA2, GED, HiSET, and the math sections of the SAT and ACT. The Algebra 1 lessons cover the skills those tests share.

How the practice questions are made

  • Original questions. Every question is written from scratch, based on the public content outline of each test. Questions from official tests are never copied or reworded here. For official practice, we link to the test makers' free materials.
  • Solved step by step. Each solution shows every step, not just the answer, plus the most common wrong turn ("Common trap").
  • Checked before publishing. All arithmetic is verified with a computer algebra system before a page goes live.
  • Facts from official sources. Test formats, scores, and policies come from the organizations that run each test, and each page says when it was last checked.

Who writes it

The lessons are written by Professor Chacha, a math teacher and educational psychologist with more than 20 years of classroom experience preparing students for college entrance exams.
